Mama gave birth at 36 weeks and 3 days: the Miracle of Life

Today, we would like to introduce you to Jourdan Elie.

Jourdan, thank you so much for giving us the chance to learn more about your birth story!

What was your greatest challenge in preparing for your birth BEFORE joining Werk Your Birth program?

The greatest challenge had been mentally preparing myself for birth.

What made you decide to join Werk Your Birth?

Coming across Chanel's informative content made me tune in more. Her videos and advice made me feel safe, supported and inspired to understand what was happening to my body as it developed throughout pregnancy as well as what to be aware of during pregnancy and labor.

Okay, so tell us about your birth? Walk us through your story!

Whew! where do i begin! I went into labor at 36 weeks and 3 days. Baby was to be born on December 29th and decided to come on December 5th at 4:15 am. I had what is called a precipitous birth. to keep the story short,  my partner and I planned to have a water birth at home but due to baby coming early we had to do the hospital. when my water broke early my heart dropped because i did not want to go to the hospital due to personal reasons. We arrived at the hospital around 11:30 pm, and had to wait in the waiting area to fill out paperwork while in labor. By the time i was taken upstairs around midnight my partner made sure to have our midwife on the phone so that she could assist him if needed. We vowed prior to stick to our birth plan as best we could if we were to ever go to the hospital yet in doing so caused so much trouble for us with everyone involved at the hospital. Our charge nurse questioned every decision made in a rude manner, didn't listen when i voiced concerns and just kept being nasty to my partner/midwife. They tried to keep me confined to the bed and not allow me walk when surges begin to get a little more intense. By this time i had been at least 4cm, again everything was moving fast so i was at 10 very fast. In a matter of minutes while focusing on breathing i voiced to the nurse that there was something coming out and she kept telling me nothing was wrong and i just had to poop. i continued to tell her that i knew the difference between the two and that she needed to check now. once she checked she seen that the baby had been coming out and started yelling for ICU nurses. There was a terribly long wait for the doctor while trying to HOLD the baby in, just for her to get there and continue to argue with my partner as well. after labor to make this short we were reported to cps and tests results for baby had been thrown out without consulting with us. Due to this we had to admit baby to the emergency where she had to undergo an immediate surgery. We spent the first 4 weeks in the hospital and emergency due to the negligence of this hospital, and we're still back and forth today.  We are currently in the process of suing.

How did Werk Your Birth positively impact your birthing experience?

It helped a lot with the information on knowing your rights, having a birth plan in place and discussing it with my partner before giving birth so that when the time came we were ready and decisions were pre-made. I also enjoyed all of the birthing videos because i feel those really helped me since i had been nervous on having an non medicated birth. Watching women with different reactions truly helped me mentally.

This could be your story too. Apply here.

What has this program done for you (and your partner)?

It’s helped us advocate for ourselves in the labor room as well given us the knowledge so that I/we are able to help the next couple.

Were there any results you weren't expecting that pleasantly surprised you?

yes! i gave birth and had a non medicated birth. I breathed through the process and she was here. this surprised me because i truly did not know if i would be able to do it even though i mentally prepared myself. so i am excited and happy that i did it! and I thank Chanel /her program for that.

What would you tell a mama who is hoping to prepare for birth?

That you got this! There may be times when you question you capability to give birth to a human even more so first time moms, and i know that a lot of people will say trust your body you were made to do this, but all in all trust yourself and believe in yourself. Stay calm and picture holding your baby.

Before we end, what would you tell someone who is considering investing in the Werk Your Birth program?

This program, will definitely succeed in you being supported during your pregnancy. If you have any doubts, concerns or questions there is someone who has experienced it and can provide insight. For me i enjoyed knowing things then having my appointments and coincidentally the midwife would mention it and i was knowledgeable.
