"first time mama who would do it all over again…"
Today, we are spotlighting Nacomi Mercer and sharing her birth story!
Nacomi, thank you so much for giving us the chance to share your story to help inspire other first time mamas!
Can you tell us a little about the newest addition to your family?
Our son August Charles was born on August 22, 2022 and I was able to have an unmedicated birth!
What were your greatest challenges in preparing for your birth BEFORE joining the Werk Your Birth program?
My greatest challenge was definitely having a lack of knowledge about birth and advocating for myself at the various doctors appointments.
What made you decide to join Werk Your Birth?
I wanted to learn from someone who cares about helping moms feel empowered. After watching all the videos it was a no brainer to set up my first initial call. I can only imagine the amount of time and energy that goes into content creation while delivering such vital information and Chanel does it so effortlessly. I knew I could trust her to guide me on my pregnancy journey.

Okay, so tell us about your birth? Walk us through your story!
We arrived around 8pm and got settled in. She let me know I was only 3cm at the time of arrival and was most likely going to send me home after she gave me my group B strep IV which I found out I tested positive for. Everything went from 0-100 after that. I asked to use the bathroom to empty my bladder. Once I sat on that toilet the contractions picked up. I faced the opposite way like I learned from Chanel. All I could remember is I stayed on the dilation station for about 30 minutes and let out what felt like 100 deep breaths. At this time it was about 9:30pm. The midwife came in and checked on me. She kept saying the baby was ready to come out. I was supposed to have a water birth but we didn’t have time to set it up. I climbed on the bed and she asked me what position I felt most comfortable. At first it was all four I began pushing on. Then I switched to my side. The midwife and my partner guided me to push when I was ready as I let out screams and Moos after every contraction. All I kept hearing in my head was Chanel’s voice you can do it mama ! This is what we've been training for this moment right here. I was exhausted! I felt like I wanted to take a nap mid delivery but I knew that wasn’t possible so I kept pushing. By the grace of God at 10:59pm my strong baby boy arrived at a healthy 5lbs 11 ounces. It was the best day of my life. I was able to have a successful natural birth. From my water breaking at 7pm, And getting to the birth center at 8pm and delivered him at 10:59pm. My biggest take away was that I stayed home and labored as long as possible & It couldn’t have gone any better.
How did Werk Your Birth positively impact your birthing experience?
It was such a blessing to learn from the best and I couldn’t have done it without you, Chanel. You gave me the confidence in that birth room to have a safe, transformative and unmediated birth. I truly feel badass and could do it all over again !
What has this program done for you (and your partner)?
I am ready to have another baby after my experience. This platform has empowered and educated me in such a positive way. There is no greater feeling to know you can give birth without medicine . Reaffirming this is what God has created for us.
Were there any results you weren't expecting that pleasantly surprised you?
There were so many things, looking back that I surprised myself with but I think the biggest one was trusting myself and trusting God in the moments of giving birth. The strength that I had. The experience itself is such a powerful one, you can lose yourself during the process because there is so much that is required of you. I had to dig deep in my faith that this was going to be a supernatural experience.
What would you tell a mama who is hoping to prepare for birth?
Have faith and trust in yourself that you are made for this very moment. You are resilient and as long as you prepare and fully engage in Chanel’s course you will be fully equipped to give birth.
Before we end, what would you tell someone who is considering investing in the Werk Your Birth program?
You will feel so empowered after finishing this program. I would recommend this birth program until I’m blue in the face. There’s so much knowledge in giving birth that we are not taught. Chanel literally gives you every breakdown. The best part is that there is information for every stage and for every mama to learn from. Whether you’re having a Natural, C section, VBAC etc. Chanel has got you covered.
