Labor snacks to fuel mama and baby

Most of the time you hear that you’re not supposed to eat anything during labor …. well, this mama and doula says differently.

Labor is a marathon and it is so important to fuel your body to keep up the energy and endurance. When it comes to eating during labor it is important to remember that the food you eat is literally to fuel your body and not to satisfy a craving. So while a milkshake sounds delicious, its not exactly going to help you keep laboring or even progress your labor.

Here are some nutritious and convenient snacks for laboring that can help you endure labor.


  1. Fresh Fruit - especially bananas

Bananas provide potassium and can help you have more energy during labor. They can also help with heart burn which is sometimes am issue for some mamas during labor.

 

2. Coconut Water

It is so important to stay hydrated during labor and coconut water also has electrolytes which help you maintain the energy and hydration.

 

3. Made Good granola bites

The brand Made Good is a great brand that focuses on organic and healthy ingredients. The balance of protein, fiber, and iron is a great combination for a nutritious labor snack, plus they have a wonderful variety of products and flavors!

4. Honey Sticks

Some women have a hard time keeping food down during labor so they resort to a liquid diet. Well, bone broth is a great option because of the nutrients and protein that can help during labor.

Packed with protein and carbs that can help provide the perfect energy boost to keep going!
